Sin Against the Holy Spirit

Sin Against the Holy Spirit

Most Christians, both the lay and the clergy, commit the sin against the Holy Spirit almost every day not knowing the consequences of this grievous sin, albeit ignorantly. The sin against the Holy Spirit is so grievous that if care is not taken, may cost one his/her seat in the world to come. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of Elohim and of His son Jesus, it is united with the Father and the Son to form the Godhead and the complete person of God. To sin against the Holy Spirit is to commit a sin or an offence against God that touched His heart so much as to make Him ‘shed tears’.

THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE SIN AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST

The sin against the Holy Spirit is a sin that shall never be forgiven both in this world and in the world to come. To sin against the Holy Spirit is to insult God or to offend Him so greatly that He weeps for His creature. There is no sin against the Holy Spirit that goes unpunished, they all attract an Anathema Maranatha or a divine curse. Sometimes the curse(s) even extends to one’s posterity and generations unborn. The danger of this sin is that the sentencing of this sin may be the sentencing of eternal damnation which is hellfire; God has pronounces that the individual will suffer in the lake of fire in the world to come. But not all sins against the Holy Spirit attracts this sentencing, nevertheless, we should be very careful how we live our lives; for our God is to be feared and He deserves our respect. See Proverbs 9:10, Malachi 1:6.

Below are the list of the sins against the Holy Spirit, so that you can do your best, by the grace of God, to avoid them:

  • TO LIE IN THE NAME OF GOD.

Please if you are fond of prophesying falsely in the name of the Lord, you have to stop it. Don’t come to a person and say ‘God said I should tell you’, when the Lord has not actually spoken to you, because you want to achieve something or because you want the person to believe you; and so you say: thus saith the Lord when the Lord has not spoken. It is a sin against the Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 18:22 and Ezekiel 22:28).

  • TO BLASPHEME GOD.

To blaspheme is to speak insults against God, for instance, when people are going through some challenges in their lives, they say certain words like: God why me? Am I the worst sinner? What is it that I have done that will warrant this? I thought you said you have power, why can’t you save me? And so on. This kind of utterances are an insult to the imperial majesty and the everlasting God. You have to talk to God with respect and fear else you will attract a divine curse from Him. The Lord asked us in Romans 9:20-21; whether a clay pot can say to its maker, why maketh me this way? Don’t question the terrible works that God does in His righteousness, else you will be cursed. When you go through unpalatable circumstances, He allowed it for your own good: for all things shall work together for good unto them that love God and are called according to His purposes (Romans 8:20-28). God said we should count it all joy when we go through diverse temptations: for He is the one that works in you, to will and to do of His good pleasure. (See: James 1:12, 1st Peter 5:6, and Philippians 2:13).

  • SLANDERING A MAN OF GOD.

God said that whosoever receives the person that He sent has received God Himself and whosoever rejects a man sent by God has also rejected God. To speak evil against the minister of God is to speak evil against the one that sent him. I pity comedians who use men of God to make jokes for their business, they are heaping curses upon themselves and upon their children unknown to them. And the devil will keep encouraging them through patronage from people just to destroy them. If you are fond of speaking evil against men of God, whether your own pastor or a pastor of another denomination, you are destroying yourself. I know that some pastors today are doing abominable things but according to spiritual/ecclesiastical order, it is not given to you to judge them. Remember that the gifts and calling of God upon a man is without repentance. God does not take the mantle because they have committed an incest. Let God judge them according to His own ways, and don’t judge them or condemn them. If a man of God commits fornication/adultery, let God strike him dead by Himself not you. What God expects of us is to pray for our pastors or to leave quietly if we feel we cannot stay under his shepherd-ship again. Read Romans 11:29 and Matthew 7:1. Some of us also join in criticising or slandering a true man of God, just like the people slandered Jesus by attributing His miracles to Beelzebub; this act attracts a divine curse. (See Matthew 12:22-31).

  • QUESTIONING THE EXISTENCE OF GOD.

The firmaments and the works of God around us is enough evidence to prove the existence of God, and that there is One who is the author of all things. He is, and was and is to come; the everlasting God. Questioning His existence for whatever reason we may claim we have is a sin against the Holy Spirit and it does not go unpunished. Atheists, philosophers, scholars, scientists, and academicians do this every day because their craft is their religion and woe unto them. But if you are a Christian and you deny His existence and omnipotence, then you will be destroyed in your folly. (See: Psalm 19:1; 14:1-3 and Ephesians 5:5).

  • WILFULLY OFFENDING GOD.

So many people wilfully offend God saying that they will beg Him for mercy when they are done. Brethren, this is wicked: it is taking the mercy of God for granted and not being fearful of God. Some wilfully break God’s laws saying that grace covers them, that they are no longer under the law. Those words are from the pit of hell to move men to offend God so that He will curse them. If we wilfully commit sin, then there is no longer forgiveness of sin. The grace of God is not a permission to break the laws of God but it is what saves us from the curses that the law brings. (See: Hebrews 10:26, and Ecclesiastes 12:13).

  • LYING TO THE HOLY SPIRIT OR TO THE MAN OF GOD.

God is all-knowing and sees all things at the same time. It is a grievous thing to lie to Him; we can deceive men but we cannot deceive the Spirit of God. It is an insult to lie to God. It attracts a divine curse and may be a curse with death sentence; like the case of Peter, Ananias and Sephira (see Acts 5:1-5). When you lie before a man of God, you are lying to God.

  • DESECRATING THE SANCTUARY OF GOD.

A lady once confessed how she seduced three different pastors of the places she had gone for prayers and they slept with her. This is a sin against the Holy Spirit and it attracts divine curses. The sanctuaries of God are: His church, our bodies and His chosen vessels (the men/women of God). The Lord said that whomever destroys my temple, I will likewise destroy. Keep your body holy; for your body does not belong to you but it is the temple of the Lord. (See: Psalm 105:15, 1st Corinthians 3:17 and Romans 12:1). If a person fornicates or commits adultery with a minister of God, both he/she and the minister will be cursed.

  • REJECTING THE LOVE OF GOD OR HIS FATHERHOOD.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. It cost God a lot to redeem us from the slavery and bondage of corruption through sin and so anyone who rejects this love given to us is already condemned. So many people say with their mouth that God does not love them or that He loves others more than them. This is blasphemy! God Himself came down in the person of Christ Jesus and went to the cross for all. (See: John 1:12, John 3:16-19 and John 15:13).

  • DENYING THE SONSHIP AND THE DEITYHOOD OF JESUS AS ONE WITH GOD.

Jesus is the word of God made manifest in this world (John1:14), and God’s word is God Himself (John 1:1-3). If you say that Jesus is not the Son of God and that he is not God Himself in flesh, the Bible said in 1st Corinthians 16:22 that let a divine curse be upon anyone who denies that Jesus Christ is the son of God. It is written that in Him is the Godhead complete bodily (See Colossians 2:9). He was from the Father and he returned into the Father from whence he came.

  • TO WATCH A SINNER DIE IN HIS SINS WITHOUT WARNING HIM.

This is iniquity and wickedness before God: we all received our salvation because somebody preached the gospel to us but when we watch a sinner die in his sin, we sin against the Holy Spirit. As a father, if you watch your children do evil without warning them, you shall attract a divine curse. (See: Ezekiel 3:18, Ephesians 5:8, Romans 6:23, 1st Samuel 3:12-14).

SOLUTION TO BREAK AN ANATHEMA MARANATHA

When Saul sinned against the Holy Spirit by persecuting the servants of God, the Lord Jesus struck him with the curse of blindness. But because he was an elect of God, The Lord Jesus then sent him to a man of God than can help him to break the curse.
