1st Kings 18:31-32 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the Lord came, saying, Israel shall be thy name: 32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.
Altar is from the Hebrew word Mizveah which mean a place of slaughter or a place where sacrifice is done (see 1st Kings 18:30-32). It is a place where the supernatural meets with the people. Before the fall of Adam, man was altar unto God (1st Corinthians 6:19), but after the fall, man became an altar unto Asherah and the devil.
Altars are gateways for the supernatural to enter the world. There are more satanic gateways on earth which started after the fall of Adam. These satanic gateways are used by demons to enter our world (statues, evil forests, covens, shrines) and do havoc in various territories or communities. The men of darkness are busy putting up as many satanic altars and doorways as possible so that the demons can keep making them prosper and keep the people of God under subjection.
But the people of God out of ignorance do not even know how to erect a proper altar that will bring down the presence of God as Elijah did on Mount Carmel. So many churches don’t have altars, and so there’s no permanent presence of God in those churches, some churches even have no presence at all and because there can be no vacuum, the devil quickly takes over the church unknowingly to the pastor.
BENEFITS OF ALTARS
a. Laying down an altar unto God brings down His power and presence, and triggers generational blessings. Altars break existing evil covenants and curses upon a generation or family tree.
b. Altars clear away the unfruitful works of darkness and bring down the glory of God’s kingdom in wisdom and wealth, and divine heavenly support.
c. It averts plagues, sicknesses, diseases and untimely death from the people covered. God sets an open door before the person that lays an altar to bring down His presence and dominion in the earth.
d. You enjoy the leadership of the Holy Spirit as your name is spiritually written on the altar you built.
e. Wherever a true altar is erected, God comes down and establishes His kingdom and glory, and then breaks every demonic stronghold under the jurisdiction of the altar.
f. The Psalmist said I will look up to the hills from whence comes my help (Psalm 121:1). Altar is a place to receive the touch of God.
g. Altars destroy the strongholds of Satan (Dagon bowed and broke his head when the ark was put beside it – 1st Samuel 5:4). Wherever a true altar is built, nothing of darkness can stand there. Altars bring down divine government and the rule of God (Job 38:33).
h. Altars bring down the Jacob’s ladder (Genesis 28:12) with the full glory of the presence of God, and divine angelic visitation like Jacob experienced.
Types of Altars:
1) Altar of Fire.
2) Altar of Prosperity.
3) Altar of Peace.
